Recorded at the Forum Theatre, University of Hertfordshire on June 10, 2024

Psychiatrist and author, Iain McGilchrist joins us, from his home in Scotland, for a discussion with composer James Francis Brown and violinist Sara Trickey.

In part one, we examine the dual nature of music as both a manifestation of creation and recreation, considering the composer’s journey from conception to composition, and the performer’s transformative interpretation.

Part Two

A consideration of the value of music within a broader social context.

Sara Trickey performs Bach’s remarkable Chaconne for solo violin, a work that epitomizes the complex relationship between structure and freedom, intellect and emotion.
