Festival Overview 2024

HFoM 2024

As the Hertfordshire Festival of Music embarks on its eighth year, we delve into the profound connections and conversations between musicians, artists, and their audiences. This year’s theme, The Power of 2: Musical and Artistic Dialogues, explores the essence of these interactions.

We open with a dialogue - ‘My Life in Music,’ a conversation and performance with singer/composer Tom Randle and the Rossetti Ensemble, featuring his own music alongside that of Vaughan Williams and Dvořák.

There’s a thought-provoking lecture, ‘Duality in Art,’ at the Hertford Museum with Barry Dodge, followed by an exhilarating performance by the newly formed Mira Trio. Our ‘Coffee Concert’ highlights young, gifted musicians poised on the cusp of their careers.

In ‘Music and the Divided Brain’ I’ll be joined by violinist Sara Trickey in an interview with esteemed psychiatrist and author, Iain McGilchrist. I’ll also be performing with another violinist, Litsa Tunnah, in a midweek recital at All Saints’ Church.

Our masterclass at Queenswood School is led by Katya Apekisheva, who will draw out the finest performances from talented young piano duet performers.

Friday June 14th will be a day of songs and tangos with a documentary on composer David Matthews, performances by the Choir of St Andrew, culminating in an invigorating evening with Tango Siempre.

On the final Saturday, Poppy Beddoe and Timothy End join forces for a clarinet and piano recital, featuring a special world premiere, and the grand finale sees our Principal Artists Katya Apekisheva & Charles Owen give a thrilling two-piano recital at All Saints’ Church. This promises to be an event full of dynamic interplay and remarkable artistic unity.

So, book your tickets now and join us for this exceptional series of musical dialogues, where each note and every word will tell a fascinating tale of collaboration and inspiration.
