Composer, pianist and animateur Adam Saunders leads an uplifting performance by children from Hertford primary schools, accompanied by Hertford’s own jazz star Chris Eldred and his trio.

Beethoven’s youthfully brilliant quartet opens a concert which includes Featured Living Composer Judith Weir’s fascinating quartet from 1990 and one of William Walton’s most vibrant and exciting works.

1670 – THE FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE: 350TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN MUSIC
FONTANELLA RECORDER QUINTET
Sunday 6 June, 2.00pm - c. 3.30pm
As a celebration of the 350th anniversary of the building of Hertford Friends' Meeting House in 1670, Fontanella present a charming programme of consort music on their magnificent collection of renaissance and baroque recorders.
The programme includes settings of popular English folk tunes of the day (including Greensleeves to a Ground), as well as some of the greatest art music calling on nature and birdsong by Purcell, Couperin, Williams and Van Eyck.

FLORIAN MITREA IN RECITAL
Sunday 6 June, 8.00pm – c. 9.15pm
Hertfordshire-based pianist Florian Mitrea makes a welcome return to the Festival this year with two titans of the piano repertoire by Beethoven and Liszt. The programme includes a world premiere by Alan Mills alongside these ever-popular short works by Debussy.

MUSIC IN MIND - LIVING WITH DEMENTIA

An opportunity to experience the results of our music sessions for people living with dementia, including their carers and families. For those living with the condition, participating in music can bring not only an improvement in symptoms, but a sense of joy and elation for those taking part.
